As a Fitness Coach, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Personal Trainer or Fitness Professional… the best wear several hats; and the very best wear them all very well!
Life coaching is a huge part of this journey, and it is typically the one hat that gets left in the closet!
Why?
My guess is because it's uncomfortable… for the coach and the client! But with that said, the best opportunity to develop relationships is to ask tough questions, and demand honest answers!
Something I learned from my OPEX teachings is that asking these questions helps determine priorities, which can be a starting point in mapping out a plan for success. Of course for me it's specific to mapping out a successful fitness plan, but it can work for any aspect of life. Once you are honest with yourself about what's important to you, it becomes easy to shed the excess, unnecessary stuff that's mucking up the gears that spin your life! And… when the objectives are clear, no matter how brief or fleeting, goals seem achievable… almost as if you can see the path that leads to success; and all you need to do is put one foot forward to start the process!
So, maybe you care about this… maybe you don't? The truth is you will come to a crossroad, and there you will be forced to ask yourself some questions in order to choose the best path forward; for you, your family, your health and wellness, your career, your passions… ultimately guiding you towards your complete happiness!
Is fitness a part of the equation? Can improved fitness positively influence what's important to you? Is fitness even a priority in your life, and if so… does it contribute to your complete happiness??
Before reading further, understand that these 7 questions are not specifically about fitness, and your answers don't need to be in the context of fitness. These are very personal questions about you… and will shed light on what's important to you now. I always ask these questions of my clients once or twice each year. It reminds me that my job is more important than just writing workouts… and it reminds my clients that there is more to their lives than performing workouts!
The instructions:
- read through all 7 questions first without answering them, then
- go back and read each question thoroughly and spend the proper amount of time to reflect deeply and contemplate 3 answers
- do this for each question, then
- write everything down in a notebook, or copy and paste into a document for yourself… put it in a safe place, and don't look at it or think about it for 24hrs
- after 24hrs, revisit the 7 questions and think deeply and honestly about your answers… and make any changes that are necessary… listen to what your heart and gut are telling you!
- keep this information in a safe place, so when you come to a crossroads or hit an obstacle, you can easily access it as a reminder of what is important to you!
Your answers are yours! If you are a personal client of mine or of any Coach, and you feel that sharing this information will improve upon your current relationship, share it!! Otherwise, keep it to yourself… no need to elaborate in the comments section… however, if you have a comment, please share it!! Thanks… cpj
