  1. “Shed-iquette” n – The practices and forms set by all considerate Shedheads.
Examples: Never disturbing another athletes space during their WOD.
Cleaning up your sweat marks after your own WOD – on the bars, the rowers, med balls, etc.
Asking the Coaches if you can help strip the bars after your WOD’s or strength is completed.
Janice – please expand on this 🙂

  13. in my experience, the best way to protect your space is to draw a line in the sand… or in this case, a line on the floor with chalk.
you need seniority and a little clout as well, but i’ve found it highly effective.
this method was important to the development of one DP in the gym as well. he had previously found it necessary to stare at me constantly while i trained, and the chalk line created a boundary.
the caveat is, if you lay on the floor long enough post wod, they will draw a chalk outline of you on the floor. of course you know you’re still alive, but newcomers and family members may be alarmed at first sight.

  19. LOL!
The shed does seem more like a community of athletes or even a family than just another place to go work out. (Of course the family part may have something to do with the # of actual family members of mine that go there.)
You know your a ShedHead when you are simultaneously congratulating the person that beat your time / rounds and feeling disgusted with your own effort.

  25. Does today count as a rest day if I dreamt of doing a WOD? I think it was Helen-it involved running and kettlebell swings. I didn’t get to finish though because I woke up. I hope that doesn’t count as a “DNF!”

  31. How’s this for a better topic:
Had my check-up today (since I am another year older!). My blood pressure is the lowest it has ever been since being diagnosed with hypertension about 10 years ago or so.
I attribute this to my training, my diet and my perspective on life. I have sat in that doctor’s office and been told the same thing for years, “Sorry, due to your genetics, you will be forced to take meds to control your blood pressure for the rest of your life.”
Well, thanks to a modified paleo/crossfit lifestyle, I am proving them wrong. In addition, having the best job I could imagine, and the love and support of family and friends… I am, one day, going to be free from the pharma-handcuffs!
Let this be a lesson to anyone on the fence about what we do and how we live!

    great “Shed-iquette” definitions !!
Shannon, I’m sure if you finished the dream, you would have seen that you killed that WOD!
Pat – that is really great news about your BP! It is very true that we have the power to change our health and not rely so much on prescriptions. My mother has been a role model for me in this my entire life. She has been a woman who wakes up at 5:30am every day to go swimming for an hour before work for years. She is in her 50’s and does not take ANY MEDICATION! She eats healthy and stays active. I aspire to be like my mother and hope that when I’m in my 50’s, I’m still killing WODs at the Shed!

  49. I was able to avoid taking statins (Cholesterol reducing drugs) through diet and exercise. Unfortunately I am still taking proton-pump inhibitors (Aciphex) for Barrett’s esophagus. Cross-fit and diet is improving that situation though and if I manage to lean up the belly a little bit more and continue to watch what I eat, hopefully I can get off of that medication in the next couple of years…Though my GE seems to think I will be on it the rest of my life…I certainly hope not.
@ Big Brother Ban: Just some friendly ribbing.

  55. At age 18 my cholesterol was over 350 – apparently it’s genetic. My mother had her 1st open heart at 47 and second at 68.
I have managed to lower my cholesterol to borderline levels through exercise and diet alone. I have been exercising for the last 10 years consistently but since I began Crossfit I managed to drop about 50 more points. In fact, my “good” cholesterol is outstanding.
And yet another reason to train at the Shed…

  61. Great banter for a rest day.
Is anyone attempting the row 5K endurance WOD today?
Anyone thinking of attempting the 100 burpee/pull-up WOD?
The new pull-ups bars are a perfect height for the GI Janes!
    Shannon-
The sign of a true ShedHead is when you start having dreams about WODs, or anxiety nightmares (row 5K). Since Helen involves pull-ups, maybe it is a sign that you are the next kipper.
    Bellpepper!
I also got some inside information that a certain ShedHead was spotted in Costco loading up on almond butter!
    Don’t deplete the supply!
Next thing to track is who goes through the jar the fastest. Mine is marked with a big J on it – as I am a little overprotective of my supply.
Great success stories that ended up being posted today.
I think Pat’s success is because of his weekly larabar and meatloaf making!

Next thing to track is who goes through the jar the fastest. Mine is marked with a big J on it – as I am a little overprotective of my supply.
Great success stories that ended up being posted today.
I think Pat’s success is because of his weekly larabar and meatloaf making!

  67. Were to start?
So many posts I could comment on but as always how could i pass up SvW. The only reason we left the old shed was because he had half of it marked off as his own and he was very territorial. As far as staring at him goes, how could you not. He performs the work outs so gracefully in those pantyhose he wears. I cant help myself, I have to stare.

  73. DP-
I agree with you on being mesmerized by SvW in skins-but I think during that point of the chalking off of space-he had not yet purchased the skins.
SvW-you will have to weigh in on that and then we will all anxiously await DP’s response on what he was really staring at.
I believe that picture showing the chalking off is part of the slideshow pics? If not, we’ll have to dig that one up to analyze it.
    CKL-
Nice! How did you like being on that rower for an extended period of time?
I also nominate DP for an honorable mention on having the ability to make the comments so colorful and interactive.

  85. @SvW the personal space commentary and advice gave me the best laugh of my day, thank you!
@Shannon thank goodness I’m not the only one dreaming of WOD’s. Ask Scott about the 5k I did the other night, I rocked! Just wait until the clock enters your dreams…3.2.1…
@Kat it was awesome working out with you! You totally kept me going and I really hope we get to do it again soon!
Ahhh, “Shed iquette” also described as those that create the family environment, caring about your fellow athletes, encouraging them when they look like they want to quit because you know they can do it even when they don’t think they can, giving back to the Shed that which you have received of it and helping the shed family grow with the right people…
Now…off to do my 18 burpees and 18 double unders!
p.s. loved the banter today, still making me laugh!
