01.28.2010-Thursday-RedShed Rest Day/Open Gym

RedShed Rest Day

Open Gym:3pm-7pm (Gym closing at 7PM today)

Strength:deadlift 8,8,8,8

Endurance: 1500 meter row, 1:30 rest, 1500 meter row, 1:30 rest, 1500 meter row

**There will be no personal training or basic training today after 7PM**

Preparation is key:

A glimpse at our fridge on Sundays after preparing and tupper-waring meals to have to just grab and go throughout the week.  Larabars, Pat's mighty meatloaves, veggie critters and more (and of course the well-placed jars of almond butter – just for added effects).

This definitely makes eating healthy – easy!

And to go along with this – here is a re-play of:

10 Tips When Eating Paleo:

Even if you are not PALEO – these tips can apply to nutrition/eating habits in general (but not the fake-food regimen – whose followers shall remain nameless!)

  1. so thank you pat for telling me about your nut butter mixture…i basically ate it for dinner. lol.
just wanted to shout out to all those like me who are enemies with the rower – it may become a bit friendlier to you if you play the fish game that is on the C2 rowers… object is to avoid the big fish that can eat you, and eat the little fish..the harder you row determines where your fish goes…it is a good way to get your butt on the row, the lil fishies are a good distraction. i normally jump off that rower after 250m bc of my hatred for it…but the fish game kept me distracted and i rowed about 1000m…give it a try if you are like me 🙂

  7. Maria-
Ally LOVES the fish game and Charlie discovered it too!
The AVALANCHE…do it and let me know how you make out. You have to attempt the run/row version at least once before you move to the run/burpee version – which I promise is much more fun (atleast as fun as ~140 burpees or so can be).
Respond back from my last email and let me know some updates on your training.

  13. In the Paleo video, Tip #6 states:
Do not run out of food. This is horrible. Do not let it happen to you.
Replace the word FOOD with something that you do not want to run out of and post it….
Mine would be – ALMOND BUTTER. Do not run out of ALMOND BUTTER.
Now if only the sun would come up so I can get out and run!
Today we also learn what Lisa’s +1 food is…last week the baby was a bellpepper, this week ???
    Happy Rest Day!

  19. Nice J9!! Thats what I do as well.
Im a firm believer in a good varied diet. Got a friend who believes in seasonal eating – things come into season for a reason and you should eat them then. Pbly a grain of truth to that.
How does everyone feel about vitamins? Do you take them, you don’t? Dr. Mercola had an article on multis today.
I’ve always thought “one a day” was a brilliantly slick marketing campaign (right up there with shampoo & conditioner directions -lather, rinse, REPEAT) LOL.
I do take a B complex maybe every two weeks, I do take calcium & D. I don’t think vitamins DO anything – unless you happen to be deficient in something in your diet.
Im realizing a lot of stuff our grandmas told us RE health and natural remedies was probably right on!!

the heirloom tomato and my favorite dessert lately is frozen blueberries and roasted almonds mixed into organic, nonfat, plain greek yogurt with a touch of vanilla in it…yum!
paleo foods the tomato craves lately is spinach and zucchini!! can’t run out of those either!

Deb, I too am researching vitamins and supplements as well.
My acupunturist takes veggie supplements that are just ground up veggies in a powder and she puts it in her smoothies to get vitamins into her diet if she can’t get enough from food.
I am currently taking prescription prenatal vitamins (thanks to the Dr.?) and I know next to nothing about prenatal vitamins. All the books say, take them or your Dr. will prescribe you one?
I have read that some people’s body chemistry doesn’t even absorb the vitamins in the pills because they are synthetic and not recognizable by our bodies.
I am very interested in your findings…when you get more info on your quest, please share!

  37. Lisa, I will.
Interestingly I have a friend who was the director of global R&D for Schering. Laughed when I asked him if he took them, said they dont do anything!
And, you’re killing me! The nice thick greek yogurt…. oooohhhhh!!!

  43. Food I don’t want to run out of…I don’t like running out of eggs, I love eggs!
In reference to vitamins, I know SvW takes some kind of vita-pack. I am sure he will elaborate eventually.
Personally, I try to avoid vitamins, thinking I get enough in the food I eat. No need to make my inner works work harder than they have to!

  49. McCoy, I wish we had room in that fridge for some twinkies! Really…when is the last time anyone of you out there had a twinkie?
What that photo doesn’t portray, is that those containers go 2 or 3 deep. The one thing that sucks about prepping all that food is the clean-up, but no matter how much I get tired of washing dishes, it is SO WORTH IT! And, yes, you see 4 dozen eggs in there. They will be gone by Sunday morning!
The one thing that I cannot imagine how I survived without is our new food processor. That was the best Christmas/bithday gift I have ever received!

The one thing that I cannot imagine how I survived without is our new food processor. That was the best Christmas/bithday gift I have ever received!

  55. Steph had a great idea for the 3rd bay – a health foods store. With all of the homemade items that are being produced – we will soon need a store to start selling it all.
1 item to add to yesterday’s list of ways to be a better CF’er:
Don’t be GREEDY (with your training)!
Should have known better to stop at 3 miles today in that snow…while attempting 4, I slid right down on my butt. And I looked like a snowman by the time I got home – with the snow piling up on my hoodie. I think Master Uguay was laughing somewhere and shaking his head. PETE was nowhere to be found to help me up.
Another thing I don’t like running out of is Orbitz Fresh Mint Gum! I tried for a day and a half to go cold turkey – I just can’t do it.
That awesome food processor whips up some awesome homemade nut butter! Pat’s mix of cashews, almonds and walnuts is so delicious!
    hierloom tomato-
you may be doing less almond butter runs for us going forward – homemade is awesome. Thanks Deb, for passing that tip along!
And finally, a multivitamin and plenty of fish oil are my supplements of choice!

  61. those containers in your fridge look like they are from MJ’s stash … she was complaining last week that all her tupperware has gone missing!
I am in for the Health food store – I’ll can add some interesting conconctions that I have come up with that can be sold there
Comment on vitamins/supps – my liver doesn’t process them so well so I try to avoid taking especially in a tablet form which is harder for the liver to break down … all about the fish oils though
