02.13.2011-Sunday-RedShed Rest Day

We are all on a journey. Life takes you here and there, and you live and
learn... or at least I hope you do!
Our journey is special. It includes lessons in fitness, fear, food,
relationships, confidence, sacrifice, perseverance and community.
Somewhere along the way, stop and reflect on your journey... today's
journey... last week's journey... last month's journey... what did you
learn? What did you pick up along the way?
A recipe?
A PR?
A friend?
A coaching cue that made a difference?
A lesson in communication?
Excellence?
Where are you in your journey? Milling about with no clear direction, or
steadfast on a path, white-knuckled and always fearing the derailing? Are
you slowly moving in the right direction, willing to explore new avenues to
help you reach your destination? Are you taking it all in, or wearing
blinders?
Wherever you are in your journey, know this....
You are not alone!
We are a family, a family of CrossFitters, a family of like-minded
individuals from many different backgrounds and levels of fitness,
education and life experiences. In the shed, we succeed and fail together,
we support and encourage our efforts together, we smile and say "hi" to
each other (newbies included!) and offer a hand shake or a hug!
We are unique... embrace it!
We hold ourselves to higher standards of fitness, food and community...
...and we make the world a better place because of it!
We have husband and wife training side by side.
We have sibling rivalries.
We have friends competing for the bell!
You just don't find that in the "gym down the street"....
...but walk into any CrossFit box, and you are home!
Thank you for making the shed your CF home!

  1. I sure look funny, trying to walk. My feet and calves are huuuurtin even more than yesterday. Is this DOMS or stupidity?
J9: NICE time! I had a feeling you were gonna kill this one. Awesome.

  9. I always really look forward to sunday’s words of the day from coach Pat! They are inspiring and really make you reflect on a ton of things…whether it be what you did yesterday or last week and what you plan on doing tomorrow.
Steve and I went to dinner last night and while drinking our “grass fed” beer and cosmo we of course talked about the shed. And our thoughts were how grateful we are of finding the shed and we always look forward to each day we can make it there. We feel so welcome and even though we have been there for such a short period of time we feel like it is “home.”
    Everyone ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Thanks Brielle and Steve, for the kind words!
I guess I didn’t try hard enough, because those 1000 double unders didn’t hurt me!
I was telling McCoy, I think yesterday’s WOD sort of evened me out!
If you guys are hurting, please focus on hydration and sleep today!!!
Tomorrow, your ability to persevere will be tested.

  25. Great job to everyone who did the DUs; it is one that I will be doing sometime this month given the significance behind it.
On another note, made my first batch of kale chips yesterday, which barely made it out of the oven because I kept tasting them. By the time I thought they were really ready, I had already eaten most of the batch. Sooo good… and now I can jump on the Kale bandwagon!!!
Made the paleo (verde)chili yesterday (thanks Kat for the suggestion) and the coconut curry with shrimp and chicken…guess I was on a cooking frenzy. It goes to show how being part of the Shed impacts yet another facet of my life! I am so glad to be a part of this place.

  33. The SHED has been a remarkable place to learn. I really enjoy the conversations and feelings of camaraderie every time I enter the shed. I enjoy the daily challenge and individual progress I have seen over the last 2 years. Now embracing the nutrition ideals is bringing learning to a whole new level. Thank you everyone for your encouragement and support. I especially thank J9 and Pat for bringing me to a whole new level of fitness and friendship.

  41. Oh I forgot to add my receipe for the week. Really my husbands’ receipe that I enjoyed. Think totally Paleo correct me if I am wrong.
Tilapia cooked over diced tomatoes, garlic, onions, basil and oregano with a side of groots and sauted spinach and garlic.
Cook onions in olive oil until soft add 2-3 cans of diced tomatoes( depending on how many people you are cooking for) add garlic and basil and orefano to your likening. Cook sauce on simmer for 15-20 min then add on tilapia on top, turn tempature down so it is a light simmer and let cook ( steam) about 15- 20 min. The groots are on the website with the shrimp dish we just did it the way the recipe called for but decided next time eliminating bacon fat and using butter and chives. Spinach just a little olive oil butter and garlic. ENJOY and please let me know if this is on track for Paleo.

  49. First the reflections on our journey past, present and future should be printed out and framed on the shed’s wall!!
Second as some of you know I got derailed the past few months and struggling to get back on. I have been totally inconsistent. I am still getting there and obviously need pushes so thanks J9 for remimnding me to move my ass today (I remembered but was going to conveniently not remimd you – LOL) I did 25 lunges, 50 squats – 4 rounds at 13:28!
I also wanna thank Kat for sending me voice reminders to get to the shed! My stomach still hurts from thursday!!
