RedShed Rest Day…
I would like to thank Steve, Matt and Randy for helping us empty the soon to be "new" shed space. Monday is moving day!
Today, we are down here in Long Branch, NJ to support our man BF, and Janine's sister, Stephanie Schmelzer as they attempt the half marathon, and full marathon respectively.
As we approach the realization of more than doubling our space, and adding a bathroom!!… let today's rest day topic be a recollection of your experiences training in "the shed"
The thing I remember most, is attempting the deadlift push-up wod with Steve in February 2008. We had no rubber flooring, 1 set of 25# bumpers (all iron plates) and no heat or insulation in the garage. We bundled up and trained with the door open. I remember lying in the fetal position 3/4 of the way through the wod! The cement was so cold, and Steve was deliriously asking "what's going on, are you ok?"
It took us 25 minutes to do that wod back then… now we hammer that sucker out in 13!
I realize this is a long post, so I digress…
Enjoy the rest day, and thanks for the support and participation.
Because of all of you, I am living my dream.
Pat
Yesterday was my 6 month mark at the shed, i am looking foward to the new space but at the same time I will miss the shed.
In 6 months i have gone from 213 lbs to 175 lbs. I could not do a single pull up and know i can do over 20. My tabata went from 20 to 40+, i have taken 3 to 4 min. off my 5 K row and I’m am able to do alot more of the workouts at the rx’d than i could when i started and i’m in the best shape of my life.
I know we have a lot of new people at the shed and more to come. I’m posting this so that they can see if you “Drink the kool-aid” and give the workouts everything you have the shed can transform you and help you reach your goals what ever they are.

hey shedheads!
Bill and Steph had awesome performances today, under less than perfect conditions. It was cold, wet and uncomfortable as a spectator; so as a runner, it had to take some special fortitude to make this race happen.
Steph’s first marathon, and she came in at 3 hours and 41 minutes (give or take a minute), and Bill finished his half under 2 hours (1 hour, 48 minutes or so).
I am proud to have been a small part of their day. It was just flat out cool to see all of those runners, knowing that two of them were part of “the shed”.

So proud of you Steph, you ran so strong!
BF – so cool to see you and hear you shout yeah RedShed!
I may just have to join you in your next half marathon.

My first RedShed experiences were watching from afar as Caitlyn was waiting to be born.
Since then, I would have to say getting my first kipping pull-up was quite exciting. I remember shedding some tears of pride as I completed a first workout that included 50 pull-ups, in which I completed all of the kipping. That is marked in the Shed by the Do you squat much? t-shirt. Group FGB workouts in the fall were also fun.
It was great seeing results from the group. Fast times, heavier weights, more rounds being completed, more and more people showing up. And love the fact that all wear their RedShed tees and sweatshirts so proudly! Such success in the RedShed.
Best part is that Coach has finally found the perfect opportunity to really shine at what he does. You rock at this and we all enjoy it so much!
Long live the RedShed!

I first heard about the ‘shed’ from Diet Pepsi Rob…and I thought he was out of his mind paying someone to work out in their garage.
After seeing evidence of the progress he was making and the lack of progress I was making on my own fitness goals I decided to come to the shed to try it out. Three months later I am still here and making great progress towards my fitness goals. I don’t think I’ll ever quit the shed.
The shed has literally been life changing for me.
Go buy a bigger hat coach.
I am really going to miss working out in the shed now that we are at Phoenix.

Here’s some trivia…
When running a 400m sprint (in the direction of the ostrich farm), what was the landmark that we looked for to know to turn around and run back?
The answer is not Coach’s chalk line, but something more “man-made” (man-placed is a better way to describe it, I guess).

first off J9, i wouldnt call 400m a sprint where i come from, but the first landmark in actuality was about 30 meters farther than it was supposed to be because Pat miscalculated. (i still believe it wasa on purpose to make me run the hill)
The second was an empty water bottle someone used to spit tobacco juice in! (then subsequently littered)
The real question is, what landmark was Dale using, as it was later revealed he was turning around about 10m early. (hence his remarkable times on run events) lol

Of course we can count on SvW to tell it like it is..
Where else can you tell your athletes to run towards the OSTRICH farm, look for the tobacco juice bottle as the turn-around point and they know EXACTLY what you are talking about (although I guess you have revealed that Dale really did not know).
You gotta love it.
Even better was when you came back from your run with litter that you had picked up along the way!
There’s got to be more out there to make us laugh…

It still amazes me how far we have come in such a short time.
My opinion may be biased, but I believe we have the best group of athletes a gym could ask for.
Let’s keep this thing rolling!
