We’ve arrived safely in Romania, but our plan to bring excellent American meat with us did not succeed.
One of the reasons it’s hard to stay Paleo here is that the meat is simply horrible. So we packed in our checked luggage twenty-five pounds of ground bison and organic chicken breast. It was deeply frozen and wrapped in insulated bags. Our connection from Copenhagen to Bucharest was less than an hour after our arrival. That meat would be out of the freezer for about twelve hours and I was confident that it would still be cold, if not still frozen in the middle upon our arrival.
Here’s how the plan unraveled. We are at the gate for our connection when we learn that the connection has been canceled. We were supposed to leave Copenhagen at 8:30am local time, and they rebook us. Now we leave Copenhagen at 3:30pm to go to Brussels, to then continue on to Romania at 8:30pm. We arrive in Romania at 10:45pm local time. I’m actually still holding out hope that the insulated bags worked well enough that the meat survived.
Then we learn that our bags didn’t come with us. We’ve been told they will be delivered by taxi to our apartment…on Thursday.
We have no clothes, certainly no good meat to eat.
I pity the taxi driver who has to endure what that will smell like by then.
It was a good plan, with only a few things that could go wrong. And they all did.
