“What if instead of podium spots our idea of fitness was to live longer, healthier and more prosperous lives? What does the prescription look like then? How can one look into the future for what is required? Can we learn from those who are 50/60/70 + right now? If we were to ask those folks about their hang cleans and 1500 kipping pull ups on average per year for 20 years, where do you think their “function” would be?”…~ James Fitzgerald
These are great words from a great leader in our industry, and the concept is something I hold near and dear to my heart… especially considering my personal circumstances… shifting from pursuing podium spots to living a pain-free life was not a quick, easy decision to make. I do consider myself an athlete, and I now aspire to be athletic into the second half of my life… but without sacrificing my health, wellness and LOVE for sport and the LOVE for the athletes I am privileged to work with every day.
I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer here… just depends on where you are right now, and what motivates you.
I read his essay this morning and thought it was appropriate to share…
