This happens to me often… training leads to perspiration… that sweat creates a heart on my shirt. I can count on both hands and feet how many times this has happened to me! I like to joke about it, saying that it's a sign from the Universe… a sign that this is what I am supposed to be doing with my life and my career… and my relationships.
I am really only half joking though, because I know in my soul that there is nothing else I am supposed to be doing with my career, and most of my relationships.
As we enter into spring and summer, I just want to emphasize some things regarding our gym and our community, especially after notifying each of you of rate increases, etc.
The first thing we need to address is gratitude… without your support and participation in our program and community over the pandemic years, the shed would just be a memory… so THANK YOU!
The second thing I want to acknowledge is that we know training with us is a luxury, not a necessity. For some reason, this country does not recognize fitness as medicine, and there are no lobbyists in government who support fitness as a means to reduce healthcare costs and improve physical, mental and emotional wellness. You don't get financial rewards for being healthy in this country… hence, gym memberships and other self-care options are considered a luxury, and possibly only for those with expendable income.
With that said, Shawn and I recognize the sacrifices you make to continue to train with us and remain part of our fitness community… that is something that makes it hard to increase rates… but as time passes, costs to operate increase. Shawn and I both make similar sacrifices so we can keep providing some new equipment along with a relevant, evolving training environment. Simply, we are doing the best we can with the revenue that comes in on a monthly basis, and we hope to continue to keep evolving and improving as long as we can!
So back to that heart on my shirt…
For the LOVE of Fitness, people, I love my job… I love Shawn as a Co-owner… I love my coaching staff… and I love see you guys every day. There is not a day at my "job" when I don't smile and laugh, get and give hugs and have a heart full of admiration and adoration for each of you. I am not sure how many people can say that about where they work? I'm guessing not many!
After the last ADC, I decided (about halfway through the sessions) that I will be putting together some random Sunday workouts… we are calling them Flash WODs!! On any given Saturday night in April and May, I will put out a post to you (the members) in Slack… so if you want to be notified of these opportunities YOU NEED TO BE ON SLACK!!! The workouts will be designed so everyone can do them, and you can make them as difficult or as easy as you see fit. They will be limited to 12 athletes, and signing up in Zen Planner will be required… and all Flash WODs will be from 11am to 12:30 or 1pm. You may get a full MAP session… or a full Sprint Workout (anaerobic/alacitc repeats)… or maybe a Lactic Endurance session??? In any case, the response in ADC was so AWESOME, I want to kind of keep trying to catch that lightning in a bottle (so to speak!).
And, since we will be creating and hosting some competitions again, we will also be using some weekends in April and May to practice our competition workouts for athletes and judges.
In a truly honest moment, you guys and girls need to know how much we appreciate what you bring to the gym every day. Since 2008, we spent less than $500 on advertising. How is that even possible??? It's because of you… you are walking, talking advertisements and ambassadors for RedShed. Can't say THANK YOU enough times to each of you for that. Let's keep this thing rolling!!
Yours in Fitness,
Coach Pat
