Longevity…
Is that something you think about?
Is having longevity on your list of CrossFit goals?
… and if it is, what does it mean to you?
Obviously, the coaching (tough love) article inspired me to write… but not because I feel like we need to respond or explain why we do what we do, or coach how we coach. I don’t think it’s necessary for you to know how I was coached, but what I do think is necessary is for you to be aware and understand YOUR coaches and their personal unique styles. With a gun to my head, I will never take credit for their awesomeness or ability to see and create greatness in others. That is something each one of our coaches earned through hard work, struggle, trial & error and dedication to their trade. But one thing that is similar in all of our coaching styles, techniques and efforts is the underlying effort to create longevity.
In the gym, where there are barbells, boxes and the like… is it more important to avoid physical injury or emotional?? What I mean is, would you rather us tell you that you’re doing great when you’re movement will potentially injure you… or would you prefer to have us tell you exactly what to do over and over again to the point where your ego is at risk of injury? When we ask you to get lower, it’s not a penalty, and it’s not because we are picking on you… it’s because that’s the safest, most effective way to squat… and it will help avoid injury and create longevity!!
MCI…
Mechanics
Consistency
Intensity
I firmly believe that is the recipe for a great foundation, leading to physical and emotional wellness, and longevity in CrossFit.
Our programming is yours… it’s for you, and that is why we protect it with a username and password.
Use it, understand it and ask questions about it.
When you hurt, back off.
When you are moving around like the tin man, back off.
When you are no longer gaining strength, skill or speed… back off and start from scratch (MCI).
Remember… longevity! Be in it for the long haul!
Tough love? One statement: You train with us for a reason, and really… that’s all that needs to be said.
