When did you first find CrossFit?
A year before I turned 40, in February of 2020.
Why was your motivation to start?
I wanted to try and be healthier and get stronger so I can be there for my son for as long as possible. Also, my husband has MS and is in a scooter and started to need a bit more help in transferring him and wanted to increase my ability to assist him as needed.
What has your CrossFit journey looked like? (Started, stopped, personal training, back to group…)
It has been one of the best experiences of my life and I wish I could do it more. When I started, my work commitments were a little less overbearing so I was more regular at the Shed. I started with personal training as it was nerve wracking to see what CrossFit athletes are capable of and I had never been super athletic in my life. I had an amazing patient coach (thank you Shawn) who really made me always realize I can do more than I thought I could. I still learn so much from you! Been in the group setting since then, and now I’m 41. I have had to deal with a more overbearing work situation and therapies with my son who was born with a brain injury, has CP, is non-verbal and in a wheelchair. He is super smart and the most affectionate little guy. Besides all his limitations has made so much progress. Another reason I tell myself I can do anything too. He has been the strongest little guy I’ve seen, and gone through a lot more than anyone else his short life span of 6 years.
What do you enjoy most?
Being surrounded by so much motivation and dedication and the after effect of every workout!!
What do you enjoy least?
Burpees 🙂
What (to date) is your greatest accomplishment in CrossFit?
The (almost) 135-pound deadlift that I did during personal training and learning how to semi-climb a wall!
What are your goals/aspirations?
Get stronger. Strong enough where I can lift my husband and transfer my son whenever needed. I also want to really climb a rope one day 🙂 and pull ups without a box.
How has RedShed and the community impacted your life?
The energy and commitment of the people around me is impeccable and incomparable. The coaches are the most invested and supportive people I’ve ever met. Makes me feel like anything is possible. Feels like a little family.
I am so thankful for this part of my life and wish I could be in that gym a lot more than I am able to. I still have waaaays to go but am hopeful will continue to make slow progress.
Thank you for sharing your story with the community!!!
