You know why going to the CrossFit Games was so cool? Well, for one… it was in California, so duh?
But on another note, it was so cool because I could identify with every athlete who was competing that weekend.
I know what it feels like to do a triplet with a run in it… at some point the suck factor enters into the equation.
I know what it feels like to have to climb a rope over and over again… it starts to hurt after awhile.
I know what it feels like to fail on hspu, over and over again! I’ve been there… it’s frustrating.
Am I at their level of fitness, strength and skill? Of course not, otherwise I would have been out there with them!
But I can identify with the struggle, and when they are out there with their feet on the rubber floor… we are on common ground.
So take that thought with you today, and keep it positive.
We all struggle… maybe at different times in a WOD, or with different elements of fitness… but the truth is that we all struggle… and in very brief moments, we are all on common ground. Whether you finish first or last, jerk the world over your head or train with an empty barbell … you had to battle through a struggle before you yelled out, “TIME!!”.
So avoid the CF pedestal, avoid the comparisons, the whispers (whether they be internal or external)…
Avoid the worry (and if you feel the need to worry, just worry about yourself!)
Create, don’t alienate!
Positivity, modesty, encouragement!
Keep going!
Keep moving!
Find your position of power. One foot in front of the other… just put your hands on the ground for that next burpee, one more pull, one more press, one more jump…
Are you with me??
