Thanksgiving always brings about good feelings… taking inventory of our blessings, anticipation of good-will throughout the festive holiday season, and seeing how enchanted our kids are by it all, it really is awesome.
Regardless of the successes and/or failures I have experienced through 2010, this time of year always grounds me, and reminds me what is really important in my life. FYI – the RedShed ranks up there, just behind the love I have for my family.
As the leader of this Clan, I feel it is imperative that you, our RedShed Community, understand what this (RedShed) means to me, Janine and the girls… and why we are so thankful for you.
Not everyone gets to do what they love for a living. In fact, most of us are slaves to jobs we need to have so we can support ourselves, our families and our lifestyles. The Neills are definitely not among those masses. We are fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to work at what we love: fitness and helping others. That is not to say that running our box doesn’t have any drawbacks. The money isn’t good, and the hours are tremendous… but you have to make sacrifices when you want to work at what you love. We understand that, and we have explained it to our girls as well. As long as we are all on board, it always seems to work.
But I think it is important for all of you to understand something… something that crosses my mind multiple times a day. Chasing a dream in order to live the dream is often considered admirable. But when chasing that dream puts your family in jeopardy, or the sacrifices do not outweigh the gratification… one starts to wonder, “is it really worth it?” When I am blowing, raking and tarping leaves all day in order to keep our house, and keep the box open… I often ask myself that very question.
And the answer is YES. With the support of my wife and girls, I find a way to make it work. When I see Janice’s name back in the rx’d column, I know I am making the right decision. Traveling down to the OTG Open with 8 ShedHeads… yeah, this thing needs to continue. Seeing the smiles on your faces when you have accomplished something great… yup, I can make sacrifices to see that everyday. You see, all of you help me understand why I love this so much. Thank You!
My family, who supports me tremendously. My health, and finally removing myself from the clutches of blood pressure medication. My faith, and the lessons I have learned from my parents. Our community, and the friendships and aquaintences that it has forged, which are truly genuine. The opportunity to coach kids and adults, and affect their lives in a positive manner. These are just some of the things I am truly thankful for.
This is more than a job…it is a way of life. Thanks to all of you for reminding me of that everyday.
I hope that this Holiday Season brings as much joy and satisfaction to you, as your efforts and performances bring joy and satisfaction to me!
Yours in Fitness,
Coach Pat
