- How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started in February 2011 at Shed 2.0 (now Polo’s). So more than a decade – which is extremely hard to believe for a variety of reasons. That was the start of my “CrossFit” career, although I still don’t consider myself a “CrossFitter”.
- What was your previous sport/hobby?
I have always had more sports/hobbies vs. free time. I like to be active; I like to do stuff; I like to learn about the world through experience. I grew up playing mostly baseball, but the true constant in my life has been anything outdoors – mainly hunting, fishing and downhill skiing.
- How does your training at RedShed influence your life?
RedShed has simply made life better. Everything in my life is just easier with it. It can sound counter-intuitive that doing hard/questionable exercise movement makes things easier, but it truly does for me.
I remember early on walking into a 9 AM meeting and people were already moaning about how tired they were and how hard work was. I would just chuckle to myself, as I had already done 100 burpees, took my kid to daycare, and commuted 25 miles. It has been a very liberating tool for me.
CrossFit enables my life to happen, it allows me to do anything that life throws at me without much hesitation. Go for a run “ok”, go boogey boarding with my kids, “ok”, go sleigh riding with my kids “ok”, help a friend move furniture “ok”, go snowshoeing “ok”, go mountain biking “ok”, etc. I believe life is about people and experiences, and CrossFit magnifies both for me.
- What do you do outside of the Shed? professional/fun
My life revolves around my family: wife Erin of almost 18 years and our kids Mia (15) and Donovan (11), and their sports, activities and hobbies. Professionally, I work in Human Resources and I love what I do. I lead an HR team of about 20 employees for a business of about 1,600 employees around the world, driving close to $1billion in sales. We design, engineer, manufacture and sell products that are used in data centers. But even with all that technology, “people” is what makes us tick. People are what matter in my life. People at home, people at work and people at the Shed. Without good people – I have nothing!
- What’s your dream WOD?
10 rounds, no cap:
400m run
20 wall walls
10 Hang snatch
- What is your music of choice for working out?
Anything from the 90’s, and some punk and some 60/70’s rock.
- What is your temperature of choice for working out?
35-55 degrees Fahrenheit (big door open/fan on regardless of season). Please don’t judge me, but when people whine it makes me want to open the door up even further.
