Cancer… it’s a bit ironic
We all know it is a horrible disease.
We have had our lives touched by it in some way, shape or
form.
Perhaps you lost a loved one to it, or witnessed the
suffering.
Or maybe it was a friend of a friend, or an acquaintance who
was diagnosed.
Chances are, you experienced how cancer can affect an
individual and a family…
But are you willing to see the good? I know it sounds ironic, or even absurd… but
all I ask is that you take inventory, and think about it for a moment.
An entire community coming together to love and support
those we know, and those we have never met.
An entire community in awe of the strength and perseverance
of the survivors, who wouldn’t let something like cancer kill their spirit, or
influence their human potential.
Every year (specifically at Jani-Ro), I am truly amazed and
reminded of how much good is really out there, and man… all that good in the
shed at once… well, it is just freakin’ awesome!! In my reflection moment, I always cry… and it’s
not because I am sad… it’s because we are all so lucky. It’s crazy to me, how something as awful as
cancer, can bring about such good… such positive emotion. It is really the one day out of the year that
I feel like my mom is with me, and she’s smiling, laughing and saying thank
you.
Our society is not evolving into teaching and valuing
altruism, but it is alive and well in the RedShed Community!
Each of us can learn every moment of every day how to love
unconditionally, and perform acts of kindness without seeking reward… and if we
treat each moment as an opportunity to do that, we can change lives, and eventually
we can change the world!
We did a workout yesterday in honor of our survivors… it was
just a ten minute workout… doesn’t seem like much, right? But it is!
We raised over $2000, which will provide 10 mammograms for
women in our community who need help. It
could be that woman you see at ShopRite every week, or that woman in the car in
front of you when you’re sitting in the Route 80 traffic (are you getting my
point!!??). Yes, we truly honored our
survivors, but we also helped 10 people we don’t know!! Why?
Because that’s how we roll!
Altruism… look it up, and make it part of your life, not
just your vocabulary! It’s nothing new to the shed! Click here, scroll down to 101018 and see for yourself!
