A full French Press and a computer… here’s what I came up with!
CFG Open Stats
Since The Open is descending upon us like vultures on a dead elephant, I thought it would be helpful to share some CFG Open stats with you!
As a coach and athlete, I believe it is important for each of us to be aware of what we’ve done and what’s to come.
So for all of you RedShed fence-sitters, here is some info that might ease your mind or convince you to sign up and participate this year:
Average time domain:
11:00
As you can see, the average time domain for each WOD of The CFG Open was only about 11:00 long, with the longest being 20:00, and the shortest being 4:00. So, as you can see, every day at the shed has been preparing you to train within that time domain… from top to bottom!
Average barbell weight:
115 for Men
75 for Women
Barbells have always been manageable in The Open. Those averages are just that… pretty average, especially considering the movements associated with them (which will be the next topic). The heaviest barbell for men was 165, and 110 for women. The lightest barbell was 75 for men, and 45 for women. The only exception would be in the snatch ladder, where the elite level Games competitors moved up to heavier barbells. Also, Masters Athletes over 50 tend to have scaled movements and barbell weights, so the averages would drop slightly in that respect.
Common movements of each Open:
snatch – any form of
clean – any form of
jerk or press
thrusters
burpees – bar-facing or to 6” target
box jumps/step-ups
double unders
wall balls
t2b
muscle-ups
ctb pull-ups
deadlifts (2 out of 3 years)
As you can see…
You will have to lift and move a barbell.
You will need to display agility, coordination and kinesthetic awareness.
You will be tested in muscular endurance and stamina.
You will need relative strength, and have strength core-to-extremity.
You will need to have a skill set relative to CrossFit, which is broad and non-specific.
These are things you train and test each day you visit the shed!
I know what you’re thinking… “double unders??”… “muscle-ups??”… “t2b??”… “165/110??”
Don’t worry about that! The WODs have been designed for everyone to get a score for each WOD… even if your score is 1! PRs and breakthroughs occur every year during The Open!
In a true moment of honesty here…
The Open is fun. It creates such an awesome environment for people to understand and experience their human potential. It’s a real mind-body experience for a lot of us…, it’s about you vs. 14.1… and then you vs. 14.2 and so on down the line, until 15.1 comes along.
Have fun this year!
Don’t obsess or stress!
It’s just a WOD… so do your best.
We wouldn’t expect anything less!
