CrossFit has come a long way, even from when we stumbled upon it in 2007.
It is always evolving into something greater than it once was. CrossFit is
infinitely scalable, so let’s scale it back!
Take a look at NJ. Back in 2008, we were one of about 20 NJ affiliates.
Now there are more than 40 affiliates in NJ, and growing! Take a look at
the shed. It started in a garage with very little equipment. Now we are
an established gym with a strong community. Take a look at our athletes… YOU, consider how you have evolved.
Perhaps double unders or burpees are not as
daunting a task as they once were? Maybe your pull-ups have evolved from
jumping, to bands, to kipping, to butterfly kipping? Perhaps you and the
barbell are better friends (or at least have come to mutual terms)? Maybe
your toes actually go to the bar, or your knees now go to your elbows?
Overhead squats, huh??… bring’em on!!! (at least that’s how I feel
about’em). Point is… YOU are evolving… YOU are getting better,
stronger, faster, more accurate.
The Sport of Fitness. What does that mean to you…? or better yet… does
it mean anything at all to you? The main site programming is geared toward
creating the world’s fittest human, to be determined through the sport of
fitness. How does that relate to us, a small NJ affiliate with less than
30 family members? It relates to us in spirit…in my opinion, the spirit
of CrossFit. Competing with and among others who strive to be better,
stronger, faster, more accurate… the spirit of CrossFit, the sport of
fitness.
Think about what got you hooked, why you CrossFit, and what brings you back
to the shed every week. Take inventory of your accomplishments, as well as
your pitfalls; and take ownership of the failures, as well as the triumphs. Take notes along the way. Strive for excellence every day.
Hold yourself to higher standards, and watch your evolution continue… in
the gym, in your kitchen, within your family, at your job…. in your life!
