What is competition?
Competition is every day. Whether or not you realize it, everything you do in your everyday life includes a level of competition. There is always going to be someone wanting to be better than you whether it’s having the nicest gardens or someone wanting your job. In my opinion, competition is good. It keeps us on our toes and doesn’t let us slack off or do a job half-hearted. It gives us an internal motivation to be the best that we can be, and if that is not good enough for anyone else, at least you gave it your all. It all winds down on how you face competition. Do you face it head on with confidence and step up to the plate? Or do you crumble because the pressure is too much? I know that being CrossFitters gives us the utmost advantage because every day we are in the gym, there is competition. Unlike real life, we have our brothers and sisters by our side cheering us on, giving us the encouragement we need to push through what we don’t think is possible.
When I first came into CrossFit, I had no idea of what I was getting
myself into, much similar to everyone else first starting out. I had
no idea what to expect. One of the first workouts I did was a
4-rounder and the first round took me almost 10 minutes to complete. I thought that I would never finish, and had it not have been for everyone next to me going through the same struggle as me
and giving me the encouragement that I needed, I would have broken down and gave up. I finished the workout and experienced the most beautiful thing – everyone shaking my hand and telling me that I did a great job. I think that our community is a group of individuals from all walks of life coming together, going through that same struggle, and accomplishing something that no one else can. CrossFit has made us stronger through daily competition and being faced with the unknown – not knowing how we will get through the workout, but knowing that we will have the support system to do so. I wake up every day with a smile on my face knowing that I have a part in making someone a stronger person. Competition is something that we need in our lives every day. So if you are ever faced with a situation that you feel you are not strong enough to succeed in, face it head on, because you have worked for the confidence to achieve greatness. At the end of the day we are all here to help you push through.
