There are things we know to be true…
A dog's love is unconditional… and we adapt to stimulus!
Finding time to write has been increasingly difficult, so I apologize if you come here often looking for something new!
We just finished up a quarter of training, culminating in a two week testing phase with a third week of make-up days/recovery training pieces. Some tests are/were/will be scenarios that are new to you… and will make you feel things and experience fitness in ways you are not used to! Hence the reasons why we don't test every day/week/month… it's just not sustainable!
So… we train multiple degrees of varied stimuli in order to introduce and promote adaptation… over time… then work to test the theory of adaptation.
Power Cleans coupled with high box jumps… asking your body to create speed and power… designed around and within creating a fitness response. This progression lead to battery tests in both the power clean and box jump, along with a max height test. This tests explosiveness in the long and short term… long term would be the 8min AMRAP and 5:00 box jump test… short term would be a 20 rep power clean sprint, and a max height test. The max height test is not a test of vertical jumping ability, but more a representation of explosive hip extension power and the ability to move hips quickly back into hyper-flexion.
This is just one example of adapting… I would hope it is obvious that the strength progressions were designed to elicit a similar response!!
At the risk of sounding silly… I know things to be true… I love my dog tremendously, and when I am with her, I feel there is a reciprocal love. But with that being said, if I do not continue to foster that love and challenge my dog with tasks and discipline, the love fades… it's still there and unconditional, but the swirl of life dilutes the therapeutic calm and satisfaction of spending time with her, and seeing her enjoy life.
I also know that progressions in training work… and if we foster intelligent progressions in strength, aerobic capacity, speed and power, we will see growth in almost every area of our fitness… including gymnastics and other skill activities. As a fitness coach who programs training for individuals and large groups, my vision is to see progress and my goal is to create environments where everyone can thrive… the newbies and elites alike!
The cliche is out there… "trust the process"
I have a great deal of trust in the process… but I also know there is a lot more to know, test and experiment with as we move forward along this fitness journey.
Thanks for coming along for the ride!!
… and summer is here… I urge you to enjoy the fitness you have worked so hard to achieve! Get outside and engage in new sports, go hiking, biking, swimming… challenge your limits outside the gym and enjoy the benefits your fitness provides for you!!
