Perseverance in the midst of adversity…
As I was driving home from the shed yesterday, I was reflecting on what had just happened. A lot of different people came together for one purpose. At that moment, I became a bit overwhelmed with some emotions.
Lucky… at that moment, I felt so lucky to be the fortunate one who was able to create and nurture our modest CrossFit community. Lucky to have had the pleasure to be a part of your lives.
Happy… at that moment, I was elated to have been able to provide Janice the opportunity to prove to herself, and the world, that she is amazing.
Nostalgic… at that moment, I realized how much I missed my Mom. How much she endured during her battle with cancer. She managed a teaching career and raising a family all while struggling with a disease that was killing her. That is the epitome of perseverance in the midst of adversity.
Thankful… at that moment, I felt thankful for the time I had with her while she was on Earth, and in turn, thankful for everything I am so fortunate to have…
… and as a tear made its way down my cheek, I couldn’t help but realize how similar it felt to the sweat that was dripping off my face just a few hours early. In the whole scheme of things, is CrossFit really that important? Can “Grace” really make a difference? The answer is YES! Maybe it sounds crazy, but this is just one part of my life that defines me… but it ramifies its way into so many other parts of my life, that it is impossible for me to deny it, and neither should you.
We didn’t just come together yesterday for one purpose… we come together every week, for one purpose. Maybe some of us want to look better, lose a little weight or get a bit stronger… but we all come to the shed to get better, faster… improve ourselves in some way, shape or form.
No matter how insignificant the WOD is when comparing it to battling cancer…. for that small fragment of time… we are forced to persevere in the midst of adversity… just like my Mom, Janice and everyone else in the world hit by cancer.
“Grace” averaged about 5 minutes of your time yesterday, but hopefully it will stay with you forever!
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for your generosity!
Yours in Fitness,
Coach Pat
